R+D659 is the new landmark of modern living about to be built at Randolph and Des Plaines. The architects responsible for this project wanted to combine the best of modern simplicity and livable ease, along with a perfect location, convenient for work and play, in one of Chicago's finest neighborhoods - the West Loop. R+D659 is more than a building; it's a way of life.

Mesirow Financial Real Estate is the developer of this 15-story building. The designers are Brininstool + Lynch, which are well known names in this business because of projects such as the ultra-modern high-rises at 1720 S. Michigan Ave. and 1845 S. Michigan Ave. According to the developers, the design and location of R+D659 are its biggest advantages. This type of building will fit ideally in the trendy West Loop environment, as the area has plenty of art galleries and nightlife.

In total, there will be 236 units, with several types of floor plans available. Sizes range from 608 to 1,230 square feet, (1-3 bedrooms) and prices range from $210,000 to about $710,000. Six penthouses are planned as well, starting in the mid $500,000s. Units will have finishes such as Italian cabinetry in the kitchens and baths, black granite kitchen countertops, stainless steel appliances, Grohe faucets, beautiful slate flooring in bathrooms and eucalyptus wood flooring in all areas besides bedrooms and bathrooms.

The amenities are what you would expect from such a high-class condominium. There will be a 13,000 square-foot retail area on the ground floor with a pharmacy, restaurants, and soft goods retailers filling the space. On the second floor, residents will enjoy an outdoor pool and sundeck landscaped with prairie grass and a Japanese-themed garden. Other building amenities include a sun deck, an exercise room, bicycle storage and an entry lobby with modern artwork and a contemporary style. The RD650 will also have a heated, underground parking garage with 187 deeded spaces.

When it comes to the area, West Loop has it all. There is plenty of entertainment here; residents get to enjoy a range of excellent restaurants as well as proximity to other popular neighborhoods, such as Greektown, Fulton Market and Little Italy. Shopping isn't abundant yet, but the neighborhood is so close to the Loop that it isn't much of a problem for most residents. Also because of the population boom, a number of public and private schools have opened in the West Loop, including the Chicago Academy of the Arts. Transportation is also great as Union Station is located in this neighborhood, as well as access to the Eisenhower and the Dan Ryan Expressways.
