The Prairie Pointe at Central Station Chicago is a brand-new residential high-rise building that is forever changing the city’s skyline. Going up in the revitalized South Loop area, the Prairie Pointe is an innovative mix of townhomes and condominiums put together in a distinctive tower that takes maximum advantage of the Lake Michigan views available in the area. The building is going up at 1600 S. Prairie, which is two blocks east of Michigan Avenue, just north of 18th Street, and a Hail-Mary from Soldier Field. The Gammonley Group, who has been constructing high-end residences in the Chicago area for the better part of two decades, is developing it.

A wide variety of one-, two-, and three-bedroom condo and townhome floor plans (11 in all) are available to home buyers considering setting up housekeeping at the Prairie Pointe. The vibe of the units is classic yet modern and Gammonley is hoping they will have wide appeal. The interior of the units features design elements like nine and 10-foot ceilings, roomy private terraces, hardwood flooring, and gas log fireplaces with marble hearths. The kitchens come fully stocked with granite countertops, 21.6 cubic foot refrigerators, built-in gas cooktops and self-cleaning ovens, 42” upper cabinets, and double-bowl stainless steel sinks. The building itself offers residents a choice of lake, city, or Soldier Field views, a business center and conference room, an entertainment room, fitness center, a sundeck with whirlpool, and secured indoor parking.

Living in the South Loop area gives building residents all the advantages a great city like Chicago has to offer and the neighborhood is one of the most vibrant portions of the entire city. Access to public transportation is easy and quick. The world-class shopping of North Michigan Avenue is minutes away. The Prairie Pointe is also convenient to many cultural and educational destinations, including the Museum Campus, Northerly Island, Columbia College, Roosevelt University, DePaul University, the Petrillo Bandshell, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Homeowners will also enjoy all the park and recreation activities that living so close to Lake Michigan provides. The development sits on historic Prairie Avenue, which also features many landmark structures. A number of new stores and restaurants have opened near the Pointe, including Starbucks, Jewel, Walgreen’s, and Target.

The Gammonley Group is known for developments like Prairie Pointe that emulate a neighborhoods’ existing design and become part of an area’s already-established community, although some Prairie District residents might argue against that. There is also some concern over the garage entrance on Prairie Avenue. Gammonley also seems to specialize in developments that are close to commuter railroads, dining, recreation, and shopping. Other Gammonley projects include 757 Orleans @ Chicago, 1111 Wabash, Medinah on the Lake in Bloomingdale, and Market Street West in Willow Springs. The Prairie Pointe is nearing completion and the project’s website claims only 20 units are still available for sale.
