Roscoe VillageLocated on the North Side of Chicago along the beautiful Chicago River, Roscoe Village is known as the “Village Within the City”. It reached up to Addison Street on the north, Belmont Avenue on the south, Ravenswood Avenue on the east, and the Chicago River on the west. Roscoe Village is home to more than 5,000 households, businesses and institutions. It is a wonderful place to live and visit, with its rich history. Roscoe Village was mostly populated by German immigrants in the later 19th century. The Great Chicago Fire changed everything, and much of the area had to be rebuilt. What is left from that period are the classic red brick homes and the beautiful store fronts that still exist today. The beautiful riverfront was once home to the Riverview Amusement Park. The Roscoe Village real estate market is booming. Mostly, this is due to the location of the properties and their proximity to Wrigley Field, downtown, and the lakefront, making this one of the more popular places to live in Chicago. This neighborhood is very lively, and you can sense that just by walking down Roscoe Street. The way that Roscoe Village has managed to keep its small town feel is simply incredible. Its atmosphere is very relaxing and calm, but it is still very close to downtown, making it an ideal place to live for families and young professionals. Basically, it's a quieter neighborhood that is quaint and family-oriented. Residents benefit from low-density living and a short walk to the local businesses. Roscoe Village also attracts a young crowd due to its relatively inexpensive real estate and good number of eclectic dining/shopping spots and nightlife destinations. Its roots are working-class and family-oriented. The recent popularity of Roscoe Village has created one of the most exciting and booming real estate markets in Chicago, with classical style homes, renovated apartments and converted warehouse lofts up for sale. Less crowded than Lincoln Park and Lakeview, Roscoe Village is primarily comprised of post World War II bungalows and two- and three-flats. Many are being converted to single-family homes. It also offers many newer townhome developments and loft conversions. Transportation is no problem when you are living here. Access in and out of the city just means a quick hop onto the expressway, and traveling to the loop is only a four mile drive or train ride away. Roscoe has direct access to downtown via the CTA's Brown Line, with a stop at Paulina. Shopping in this place is mostly antiques-orientated, because it has the largest concentration of antique stores in the Midwest. But there are also eclectic, independent-minded boutiques and restaurants on Belmont Avenue between Damen and Western. And of course, you can quickly hop up to West Lakeview for more restaurants, entertainment venues and shops. It's also very close to Wrigley Field. There are a lot festivals taking place here, like the Retro fest which draws over 35,000 guests to Roscoe Village each August. You can also find some good performances at the Mercury Theater and art house cinema fare at the Music Box Theatre. |
