The Gold Coast of Chicago is often referred to as the most affluent neighborhood in Chicago. The bulk of housing in the Gold Coast is made up of high-rise condominiums and some apartment towers, both new construction and vintage buildings. The actual neighborhood, according to most accounts, stretches from east of Michigan Avenue south to Walton Street, west to Clark Street from Division Street, North Avenue south to Division and along Lake Shore Drive.
One of the big draws to the Gold Coast neighborhood is the Oak Street Beach on Lake Shore Drive. It is a favorite recreation spot for residents and visitors alike. Another signature of the Gold Coast are the many high-end retailers located there. Shoppers can find virtually any type of upscale store on nearly every street, with familiar fashion icons like Chanel, Gucci, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Yves Saint Laurent, Harry Winston, Ralph Lauren, Rolex, Versace, Lilly Pulitzer and Paul Stuart. And if you're in the mood to luxury car shop while you tour some luxury Gold Coast Chicago condos, both Porsche and Lamborghini show rooms are in the neighborhood.
There are several new construction condo towers in the Gold Coast and most have units available if you're looking to make a purchase. Many of the older towers also have condos for sale or rent as well, and some buyers prefer the vintage look and feel of those buildings and units. Most of the new high-rises have deeded garage parking, a 24 hour doorman, sun decks, fitness rooms, pool, business and party rooms plus fitness center and in some cases a spa.
