Marina City is a condominium complex on 300 North State Street in Chicago's Loop. The architect is Bertrand Goldberg and his idea was to create a "city within the city". Simply by looking at some of the photos available online, you can easily say that he achieved his goal. The Marina City consists of two towers, both 578-feet-tall that contain 896 units in total and a variety of amenities. In 1977, the building was converted to condominiums, and in 1994 a $100 million renovation began after the commercial portion of the Marina City Complex was sold to a real estate investor and developer.
Ever since it was completed, this complex with its twin "corncob" towers has turned into an icon of the city of Chicago. This multi-million dollar project, built in the heart of Chicago's Loop, required thirty years of thought and development for Goldberg. The lower third of each building is a continuous parking ramp that spirals upwards, accommodating four hundred and fifty automobiles. Monthly parking is available for $190 a month. Hourly rates are also available. And because the condo units start from the 21st level, all residents can enjoy some great views of Chicago's skyline.
As an architect, Bertrand Goldberg has always felt that there are a lot of advantages in the circular forms. First, they are aerodynamic, all units are equally distanced from the center so they are uniform and there are no corners or parallel walls, so the whole feeling is different when you live there. Due to the design, all living rooms are full of light and have great views. The project is all-electric, with heat and hot water individually produced in each apartment.
The "city within a city" has plenty of amenities to satisfy even the most demanding buyers. Amenities include the Marina Cleaners, Marina Food & Liquor, Crunch Fitness, 10 Pin Bowling, Chase Bank, several restaurants, a one- thousand-seven-hundred-and-fifty-seat theater and a seven-hundred-seat auditorium, swimming pool, skating rink, a marina for seven hundred small craft and a sculpture garden at the base of the towers—all overlooking the Chicago River. There is also a rooftop deck that all residents can access during the summer days.
But that's not all. Not only do residents have 24 hour access to laundry facilities, they have a fantastic view of the city while doing it. Every building has a laundry facility on the 20th floor, approximately 20 washers and 20 dryers, which run on a card system. Security is provided 24 hours a day by A&R Security. All residents are issued an electronic security card that allows access to the main entrance, parking level tower entrances, laundry, storage, and rooftop deck. For more amenities, you should check out the Chicago Multiple Listing Service.
Cable TV is provided to all units by MDU Communications and paid for through association fees. Internet is available through MDU Communications. Marina City is located within blocks of every CTA train line servicing the city. It is just north of the Loop and only blocks from the city's Theater District and great shopping.
