Prairie District Lofts

Click Here To Get Up To Date Pricing & Availability

The South Loop has gone from a forgotten corner of downtown Chicago to one of the hottest neighborhoods in the city. A number of old warehouses have been turned into luxury loft space that is among the largest in the city.

One of the biggest loft developments in the South Loop is Prairie District Lofts, located at 1727 S. Indiana. The building has been around since 1905, when it was built for a commercial photography company. The building was later renovated into rental units, and has since been converted into 116 luxury lofts. The development was led by Kargil Development.

Buyers can choose from one, two, three, and four-bedroom lofts, with simplex, duplex, and even triplex layouts available. Floor plans for one-bedroom units start at 1,002 square feet and range up to over 1,900 square feet, making these lofts among the largest one-bedroom units in the city. Two-bedroom lofts range from 1,000 square feet to 1,880 square feet.

Residences enjoy a number of luxury amenities, including high ceilings and oversized windows that give a feeling of space and fill the loft with natural light throughout the day. The kitchen comes with an appliance package and custom cabinets. Residents also enjoy hardwood floors throughout the main living areas and plush carpeting in the bedrooms.

Some units come with a rooftop deck, while all other lofts offer a large private deck. A washer and dryer are also included with many units at Prairie District Lofts.

All residents will love the long list of amenities offered in the building. Prairie District Lofts has a modern fitness center, extra storage space, bike storage, and onsite laundry. Private parking spaces are available in the indoor heated parking garage. Residents can also get to know the neighbors or entertain friends while taking in the incredible views of the Chicago skyline from the rooftop deck.

Prairie District Lofts is steps from everything the South Loop has to offer. Shopping, bars, restaurants, cafes, and nightlife can all be found around home. The area is also home to several museums at Museum Campus, Soldier Field, lakeside parks, Grant Park, and many other important Chicago landmarks.

Public transportation serves the area well, offering both a Metra and an El stop, as well as several CTA bus lines. The Dan Ryan Expressway gets residents anywhere in the city in minutes. Downtown Chicago is within walking distance, allowing commuters to say goodbye to crowded trains and buses.

Sales of condos and lofts around the Loop have picked up in recent years. According to data from the Chicago Association of Realtors, a total of 1,046 homes were sold around the Loop in 2007.

While this is a small drop from the previous year, it is still the second highest total sales seen since 1991. However, with several developments coming on the market around the Loop, it's no surprise that the average turnover time for units sold in 2007 rose to 76 days.

Prices were also up during the year. The average sales price for condos and lofts sold in 2007 skyrocketed to $496,298, a 51 percent gain from prices seen in 2006. The excellent location and unbeatable lifestyle found in the Loop are sure to keep buyers coming for more.
