According to the Chicago Association of Realtors, the average sales price during the fourth quarter rose by an incredible 125 percent from the same period in 2006.

However, the rise in prices in the area also affected the number of sales seen during the fourth quarter. A total of 276 condos and lofts were sold around the loop during the fourth quarter, down from 537 units sold during the same period in 2006. However, this is still the second highest total sales for the quarter in more than 16 years.
