Chicago Suburban Condos

Condos in suburban areas of Chicago may not be as numerous as those being constantly built and refurbished in downtown Chicago, but there is a healthy assortment of them available. Many buyers prefer to purchase a condo in the suburbs because they are often more affordable, are located in more quiet and established neighborhoods, and also make great second homes. If you take a look at any of the communities surrounding Chicago, you will be able to find examples of these homes.

One example of a luxury condo development in Evanston is Winthrop Club Condominiums. Located on 1567 Maple Street, these condos are comparable to many condos found in the heart of Chicago. The prices range anywhere from the mid $300,000 range all the way up to just under $2 million. The expected individual unit details include a stainless steel kitchen appliance package, granite counter tops, cabinets constructed in Italian design, parking space, and building swimming pool, doorman and club room.

Aurora is home to a loft development by Citta Development. The project is Downer Place Lofts on 220 East Downer Place. The development of this former warehouse will contain 44 loft units when completed. These one and two bedroom lofts come with 10 and 14 foot high ceilings, exposed ductwork, and floor to ceiling windows. The building will boast a beautiful lobby that takes up two floors and is highlighted by glass elevators. The location is prime for downtown Aurora and also has easy transportation access with a Metra stop nearby. The prices are right, with lofts going for between $140,000 and $190,000.

Another Aurora condo is River Street Plaza. These condos are situated in a great spot near the Fox River and close to all of the attractions Aurora has to offer. The River Walk, green spaces, Paramount Theater and many restaurants are within walking distance. Living at River Street Plaza will get you oak flooring, stainless steel appliances, maple kitchen cabinets with granite counter tops, washer and dryer hook ups, marble finishes in the baths and parking and storage space.

Edgewater has an unusual development on 1128 West Ardmore Avenue called Substation North Lofts. The building was home to the electrical substation for ComEd and when it was redeveloped into lofts, the designers decided to keep the spider webbing of wiring and turn it into modern art of sorts. So besides the usual loft details of exposed beams, incredible 18 foot high ceilings and brick and concrete, the lofts have insulators, fuse panels and even metal ladders scattered throughout. The whole development is comprised of three buildings that house 14 lofts and two new condos, and the buyers for these unique units so far have been mostly males who connect with the hard wiring, so to speak.

541 West Cornelia is a new development in Lake View on West Cornelia Avenue. This is another luxury building with only one residence per floor. The 24 story tall building will house 22 condos that have from three to four bedrooms and two and a half to three and a half baths. Prices are ranging from $1.2 to $2.9 million each.

Another Lake View development is Park View East on 828 West Grace Street. This building is set to reach 17 stories and contain condos that have two to three bedrooms. Prices are less expensive here, with tags in the $250,000 to $390,000 range.

Skokie also has a number of condos available, including The Residences at 8200 on Lincoln Avenue. These condos feature one to two bedrooms and baths, large windows for plenty of natural light, several floor plans, and balconies or terraces.

These are just a few examples of suburban Chicago condos. There are many more villages and communities surrounding Chicago that have great living spaces available right now and more in the construction phase. These condos come with many of the same features, details and amenities as condos in downtown Chicago, but often with a lower price tag. They also offer residents a chance to live in a less busy and more quite location while still being within easy commuting distance of the city. There are some fantastic deals out there if you take the time to look at some of these suburban homes.
