June 1, 2009 - The Winthrop Club is getting ready to welcome its first residents in July, less than a month away. The 15 story Evanston high-rise still has plenty of suburban Chicago condos for sale though, as the development is around 40% sold right now. There are 96 one to three bedroom units in the $50 million tower, and Bob Horner of Winthrop Properties was quoted in a GlobeSt article as saying that, “Our buyers are very sophisticated and used to making decisions, so we’re still selling in spite of the market - not at the rate we’d hoped, but at a satisfactory level. Once we demonstrate that the building is complete and we start closing units next month, that will take the anxiety from the people sitting on the fence who are waiting for proof, so that should give us a boost.”

Construction on this suburban Chicago real estate development started in 2007, according to the article, and when completed will hold the title of the first Midwest residential tower to receive a Gold LEED rating. Some of the features that qualify Winthrop Club for that achievement are low VOC paints and building compounds, air filter systems and electrical systems that will use 20% less energy than usual. The use of a green roof top, bamboo, Energy Star appliances, water saving toilets and faucets plus energy efficient glass floor-to-ceiling windows all help to conserve energy.

The high-rise, which is located on 1567 Maple Street in Evanston, also has a variety of floor plans. GlobeSt states that the average unit is about 1,450 square feet. Prices start around $329,000. The four penthouse units that were priced at $1.9 million are already under contract. Other finishes and amenities include Italian kitchen cabinets, oak hardwood flooring, marble baths, large closets with organizers, balconies, 24 hour doorman, fitness center, pool and spa, sundeck and party room.
